"List price" is the suggested retail price provided to us by our vendors. We make no representation that a substantial number of these products have been sold or offered for sale at the list price. Actual retail prices in your area may be substantially different. Since we sell products on a national basis, it is not possible to know if our merchandise is sold at list price in any particular location or at any particular time. "You Save" reflects the difference between our price and the vendor provided list price shown on our sites. Since the list price may be different than the actual retail prices in your area, you may not actually realize a savings of this amount.

Manufacturers sometimes ask that retailers not display a price if it drops below a certain amount. The "Click here to see Lowest Price" message indicates that the price of the item is so low that the manufacturer requested that it not be advertised (that is, displayed). In a brick-and-mortar store, you would probably have to ask a salesperson what the price of the product is. At onSale, by clicking on "Click here to see Lowest Price" you are essentially asking to see the price, at which point we show it to you.

  Great little speaker

I am blown away at how powerful this little speaker is. Just turning my iPhone halfway up is plenty. The speaker puts out a full sound too. I was expecting a very thin, cheap sound, but that's not what I got. Easily worth the $10 I spent on it.

On/Off Switch is poor on Altec Lansing Orbit Speaker

Wow, turning this thing on/off is a killer. What a horrible design flaw. If leaving it on did not drain the battery I would just leave it on and forget messing with the switch.
At $9.99 it's a great deal and it does sound very good. Just be warned about the on/off switch.
I feel bad for anyone who paid $39.99 as they must of gone crazy with the switch.
I see some reviews here that said that the sound was garbled. I would suggest that this might be due to batteries. Be sure to use new AAA batteries and you will not be disappointed with the sound quality.

Not bad for the price!, 2009-09-14 14:13:50.653
By Chuck Myers (OK)
First of all, I think the store is awesome! Love the products, great prices, quick delivery, and incredible customer service. The speaker is not bad. I would have been disappointed with it if I had paid 39.95, but at 9.95 I am extremely satisfied. You get what a small speaker can deliver plus some. Grab one at this price and you’ll not be disappointed!

some advice on the on-off switch, 2009-10-14 12:12:19.49
By Marsha ()
I also had problems with the switch on one of the speakers. I bought two and one worked great, turned pretty easily. When I called tech support, the adviser suggested that I press FIRMLY on the top of the speaker as I attempted to rotate the base, and although it's not as easy as I would like, it works just fine. I love the big sound of this speaker and for the price, it's quite wonderful. I bought two as gifts, and now I'm going to buy another few for friends and one for myself.

A Backpacker's Dream, 2009-09-30 04:17:06.16
By Pops ()
I love backpacking, and I love my music, too. The Orbit speaker is the answer to a dream. It is: 1)rugged 2)light-weight 3)compact, and 4) pure function. The sound quality is nothing short of amazing, considering it's size and price, and the extended battery life is a huge plus. The on/off switch does require a little effort, which is another advantage for back-packers. Many times (before purchasing my Orbit) I have arrived at my campsite only to find the batteries half-drained on my former (inferior) speakers because their flimsy switch had turned itself on during the hike. Hooray Orbit! Combine the Orbit with one of the new ultra-compact MP3 players, and you have backwoods bliss. It is also very easy to find a splitter to plug into your source, plug 2 Orbits into the splitter, and then listen to your music in glorious stereo. I highly recommend the Altec Lansing Orbit speaker. Let me put it like this: I purchased FIVE of them!

Disappointing...sort of, 2009-09-16 14:38:16.99
By BluegrassKev (MO)
Don't get me wrong, this is a good little speaker. And for the money it is a GREAT speaker.
The sound quality is really very good. The problem is in the on/off mechanism. You have to twist the entire unit to turn it on and off. The case/housing is poorly manufactured from plastic and the first time I twisted it (which was difficult) I had a feeling that if anything fails with this device, this switch mechanism is what will break first.

Nice solid little speaker with great sound., 2009-09-25 07:39:41.9
By Scott O ()
Prior to making the purchase I read most of the reviews on this speaker. Mostly everyone really liked the speaker except for the on and off mechanism. I own several of Altec Lansing’s products, and am impressed with the products performance and construction. So, at such a good price, I decided to purchase the speaker even after having read some of the negative aspects of its on/off switch. Having had it for several days now, I love it and am contemplating purchasing another one for my wife. When I first opened up the package, the first thing I did of course was try the on/off mechanism, and like everyone stated, it seemed to be difficult to position. The harder I coerced it the more difficult it seemed to move. What I found, on my speaker at least, is that if I positioned the switch with the lightest touch possible the mechanism positions freely. When I put to mush pressure on the rotational ring it binds with the base unit making it seem as if there is something wrong with the switch...

OK for the price, 2009-09-04 06:37:29.63
By john (NJ)
For the sale price I didn't expect much but this little speaker has surprisingly good sound for its size. Just a couple complaints though:
1. "Batteries not included". This requires 3 AAA batteries to operate.
2. To turn it on and off you must turn the silver ring around the outside of the speaker grille, rather like opening a large jar. Mine was extremely stiff and didn't work very easily, I had to really twist to get it to turn on or off. If your is anything like mine you may need one of those rubber jar opener things to get a good grip on it. More of the same with regard to the battery compartment, difficult to turn via the provided recesses. Also, the only indication that it is on or off is the alignment of the index marks (red and green) on the outside of the speaker. Mine did not align very well.
3. The wire is a little on the short side, about 3 or 4 inches so the device you are attaching has to be right next to it. However, this allows the wire to be neatly stored in...

Bad On-Off switch, 2009-09-04 17:30:06.63
By Dwight Miller (CA)
This speaker seems to work OK ... once you've managed to turn it ON by twisting the whole top while gripping the bottom. Turning it OFF was even harder to do. Terrible ON-OFF design. Don't buy this!! I'm throwing mine away (it's not worth the postage to return)

Not bad for low price, 2009-09-04 18:56:08.05
By iphone speaker seaker (CO)
Don't listen to the video's propaganda, you don't put in batteries and turn on your ipod. The sound cable must be perfectly secure or you will have static. You also have to rotate the speaker itself from off to on, it should be easy, but I've found you really have to work to get it to turn, a child cannot do this, and it does not meet anyones definition of simple.

The sound quality is reasonable, especially for this price. However, it is mono (obviously) and it has no volume control at all. Volume is controlled from the ipod (or whatever) which is fine but limited. If you try to max it out you will lose quality past about 3/4 of your device.

I've not tested the real limit of the batteries but they seem to meet advertised standards and they will last a while. However, some products support AC connections and this does not, so if you want permanent power, look elsewhere.

If you have nothing but headphones, this may be worth your 9.99 for some reasonable external s...
